Mr Goh Kim Hui presenting one of his works to PSS President
who launched the show at the Loke Wan Tho Gallery.
Kim Hui expressed his Ying and Yang philosophy in his
solo exhibition in December 2000. Works exhibit the
balance of Yin and Yang in a nature harmony, and the
creation and destruction phenomenon among the 5 elements
in the universe believed by Chinese for more than 5000
years.
Since the day Kim Hui started to pick up photography
as a hobby, he worked hard to reach where he is today.
A self-taught photographer, he has accomplished excellent
results in photographic competitions and received recognition
from many international photographic bodies.
Today, he is not only an excellent photographer, but
also a photographer in his own rights. He created his
personal style, Painting with Light, Make
a Still Picture Moves etc. and experimented with
the wonders which light can be used to enhance a piece
of photographic work. In his most recent photographic
collection, he dwelled deeper and researched with the
philosophy of the mysterious Ying and Yang.
Kim Huis involvement in photography began in 1968
when he was a 16 years old student. After his high school,
he joined The Photographic Society of Singapore (PSS)
where the passion for the art grew stronger. Since 1971,
he actively participated in international photographic
salons and exhibitions. To date, he has won more than
30 medals in both local and overseas salons.
He has contributed significantly in promoting photography.
During the last year of his National Service in 1972,
he was posted to SAFRA and helped in the formation of
SAFRA Camera Club.
He served PSS as the Hon Secretary, Journal Editor and
Hon Treasurer. He is the Vice-President presently. His
involvement in PSS publications started since 1983,
from the traditional cut and paste to DTP, from hard
copy (book) to soft copy (CD-ROM) and the World Wide
Web.
In 1998, he produced the first Electronic Photographic
Exhibition in this region. He compiled all the exhibited
works of the ASEAN Salon of Photography into a CD-ROM.
It was programmed to display pictures automatically
with a computer. The vivid production soon gained many
recognition and congratulation letters from all over
the world including two major international photographic
organisations: The International Federation of Photographic
Art and The Photographic Society of America. In September
1999, he produced yet another CD-ROM, this time he included
a larger collection - The 50th Singapore International
Salon of Photography. These two CD-ROM attempts are
a first in both regionally and globally. Singapore has
scaled to another new height in the world of photography.
Over the years, he has conducted numerous seminars
and talks on photographic art in Singapore, Malaysia
and China.
In the past 30 years, he has received recognition from
the following international bodies:
- The Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain,
- International Federation of Photographic Art,
- The Photographic Society of New York,
- The Photographic Society of Singapore.
